Nishan is either masculine or feminine given name
- Armenian: Pronounced: Nush'-an ('nush' rhyming with 'push'). In Armenian script you wouldn't need a vowel between the 'n' and 'sh' letters, it would be understood that an 'u' would be there; in transliteration, an 'i' is written so that English speakers can pronounce it and in order to avoid it being pronounced Noo'-shan. The 'i' should not be pronounced as an 'ee' like all the other 'i' vowels
