What is the meaning of bond indenture?

bond indenture is a document that sets forth the terms of a bond issue, the obligations of a bond issuer, and the rights of the bond holders. The bond indenture is a contract between the company that issued the bonds and the bond trustee acting on behalf of the bond holders. Bond indentures may include a variety of provisions and thus define and create the differences in term and risk.
