If you are sued and do not file papers in response to the lawsuit in the prescribed time limit, the plaintiff (person who sued you) can ask the court to enter a judgement against you. A' Default Judgement' against you is an automatic loss of the case for you. Sometimes a default judgement can be set aside but this is unusual and circumstances must be notable to justify such a turn.
