What is the meaning of Echidna?

  • (n.) A genus of Monotremata found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. They are toothless and covered with spines; -- called also porcupine ant-eater, and Australian ant-eater.
  • (n.) A monster, half maid and half serpent.
