federal reserve note is the paper currency placed in circulation by the Federal Reserve Banks and issued in denominations of from $1 to $100. Nearly all of the nation's circulating paper currency consists of Federal Reserve notes printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Federal Reserve notes are obligations of the U. S. Government.
