What is the meaning of Freddie Mac?

Freddie Mac is a shareholder-owned corporation that buys mortgages from banks and other lenders, packages them as securities, and resells them to investors. Freddie Mac provides the dual consumer benefit of providing funds for mortgage lending and offering the opportunity to invest in high-yielding investments backed by the federal government. Its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
