Occurs when a distribution is not symmetrical about its mean. A distribution is symmetrical when its median, mean, and mode are equal. A positively skewed distribution occurs when the mean exceeds the median. A negatively skewed distribution occurs when the mean is less than the median. These conditions are also known as skewed to the right and skewed to the left, respectively.
