What is the meaning of Withholding tax?

Withholding tax is a withholding tax is a tax deduction at source, withheld and paid by the payor (eg the employer) to the tax authorities on behalf of the payee (eg the employee). Also the tax payable on payments such as dividends, interest and debt repayments, sent to foreign entities.
